CLETO REYES - Hecho Mexico:
Cleto Reyes Castro was born on April 26th 1920 in Mexico City, in the midst of the reconstruction period after 10 years of revolutionary struggle. Because of the hard times his family was facing, Cleto began to work at the age of 12 in a saddlery where baseball gear was manufactured. In 1936 while he attended elementary school, his huge love for boxing was born as the “Peralvillo Cozumel Arena”, was in front of his school. In 1938, Cleto Reyes participated in an amateur fight, his performance was so outstanding that the public ended up throwing coins into the ring floor; however, the pounding was so hard that he was convinced not to fight again. He chose, instead, to mend the gloves he had used during the fight and this was the beginning of his career in glove manufacture.

Subsequently his gloves obtained the approval of the local boxing commission (COMBOX DF), and in 1945 the Cleto Reyes gloves were used in a world championship fight for the first time on “La Condesa Arena”, in the fight between the second Mexican Champion, Juan Zurita Vs Ike Williams. This was a very relevant year in Don Cleto’s life since that was the year he decided to become independent, always counting on his wife and children’s support.

In 1965, he had his first commercial representative in Los Angeles, California; and began distributing his products in the most important cities of the United States and some other countries.

In 1970, during a time in which Don Cleto’s health was in delicate conditions, his son Alberto Reyes joined his father’s efforts with a strong entrepreneurial vision. In 1975 his son, decided to register CLETO REYES as a trademark, and founded Industria Reyes S.A. de C.V. in 1979.

Nowadays, Cleto Reyes products have a prominent place in the international market and are exported to five different continents with the approval of the main world organizations. The company has received important recognitions such as Mexico’s National Exports Award in 1994 (Granted annually by the Mexican Trade and Industry Department to distinguished Mexican Companies, and many others).

In the beginning the need, later a great passion for boxing, and finally his dedication to his job were the factors that inspired Don Cleto Reyes Castro to devote his life to boxing.

In 1983, Kronk fighter Milton McCrory won the WBC's world Welterweight title that had been vacated by Sugar Ray Leonard; Jimmy Paul beat Harry Arroyo for the International Boxing Federation's world Lightweight title in 1985. Duane Thomas, another Kronk fighter, beat John Mugabi for the WBC's world Jr. Middleweight title in 1986. McCrory's brother, Steve McCrory, was also a world champion. Prentiss Bryd was vice president of the gym during the 1980s. In the Lennox Lewis era, Richard Slone served as VP directly under Steward. British middleweight boxer and England captain (1980–83) Errol Christie wore the coveted Kronk gold shorts in the eighties supporting Thomas Hearns on the bill in Las Vegas the night that Hearns soundly beat Roberto Durán on June 15, 1984.

LONSDALE:

London first established itself as the quintessential boxing and sports brand in the early 1960’s, however its roots and history go back even further. In 1891, the fifth Earl of Lonsdale Hugh Lowther, President of the National Sporting Club was the first to introduce boxing gloves after the deaths of three boxers in bare-knuckle fights. Lord Lonsdale was known as the Yellow Earl, as this was his personal colour. He had a distinctive yellow Rolls Royce that had a customised raised roof in the back carriage to accommodate his top hat and 194-centimetre frame! Lord Lonsdale was also the first President of the Automobile Association of U.K and later the chairman of the Arsenal Football Club. The yellow colour of Arsenal’s usual away strip is a tribute to him. Known by some as ‘England’s Greatest Sporting Gentleman’, he was also the inspiration for the Lonsdale cigar size. In 1909 to promote boxing, Lord Lonsdale started donating the ‘Lonsdale Belt’ to each professional boxer who won his British National Championship and successfully defended it twice, thus starting the tradition that a boxer was not regarded as a true champion until he earned a Lonsdale Belt. In 1929 Lord Lonsdale became the first President of the British Boxing Board of Control. He passed away in 1944 at the age of 87.
Years later in 1959, an ex-professional boxer Bernard Hart, was granted permission by James Lowther (the 7th Earl) to use the Lonsdale name for a range of boxing clothing and equipment. Business commenced at 21 Beak Street in Soho in 1960. The brand became an overnight success due equally to its heritage and quality product, with boxing champions such as Muhammad Ali, ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson and Brian London becoming devotees. By the mid 60’s Carnaby Street in Soho had become world famous as a hot spot of ‘swinging London’. It was a key place for Britain's youth revolution and had a long-term influence on London's shops, fashions and tourist industry. By the end of the 1960s, Carnaby Street was London's second-most-visited tourist attraction after Buckingham Palace and the Lonsdale store was just around the corner. With high profile visitors such as Gregory Peck, Paul McCartney and Anthony Quinn, the store quickly became a mecca for celebrities as well as the boxing fraternity and the general public. In 1979 a young man by the name of Paul Weller, lead singer of ultra cool band The Jam, visited the Lonsdale store, unbeknown to the sales staff that were mainly retired boxers and had no idea who this uber star was! Paul purchased a large number of Lonsdale tees and then hit the tour circuit in Japan. The reaction to seeing the bold Lonsdale on Paul’s chest was immediate in both Japan and across England. Sales boomed, introducing the Lonsdale name to many new customers. Lonsdale’s boxing tradition has never faded. Evander Holyfield, Marvin Haggler, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson and Ricky Hatton are amongst the world champions who have trained and fought in Lonsdale. Australian boxer Vic Darchinyan is the current WBA, WBC and IBF Undisputed Super Flyweight World Champion and has been a proud Lonsdale supporter. On November 1, 2008 Vic Darchinyan became the first man in history to unify the super flyweight title in that weight class with his crushing win over Cristian Mijares at the Home Depot Centre in California. Current boxer’s part of the Lonsdale team includes Billy 'The Kid' Dib and Lovemore Ndou as well as our first female boxer Lauryn Eagle.Lonsdale in Australia has also become the brand of choice for many sporting stars including Rugby League’s Scott Prince, Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Mitchell Aubusson, Josh Perry, Glenn Stewart and Gorden Tallis and super coaches Craig Bellamy and Brad Fittler. In the early 90’s the brand made its debut into the European market, and by 1998 had arrived in Australia. Although Lonsdale’s boxing heritage has never faded, it has transcended to become the internationally renowned fashion label it is today, combining classic lines and fluid shapes with a fresh and modern edge. The comfort and durability of the clothes make them essential pieces for every wardrobe, both for sport and street wear.

PROBOX:

When a professional engineer expanded on his love of boxing by making a ring for his local club, little did anyone realize that 20 years later his company would become one of the UK’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of boxing equipment. Established as a ring manufacturer our exacting quality standards built us a good reputation quickly. This led to the buyout of a company that manufactured leather sporting goods. We were now able to facilitate a full range of quality boxing equipment, providing our clients with almost every extra they could possibly need.
The new ‘Pro-Box’ brand was launched and within five years our attention to detail and safety was rewarded with the Amateur International Boxing Association (A.I.B.A) granting us the only ‘Safety And Quality Assurance License’ issued to a British company  for the manufacture of competition gloves and headguards to protect amateur boxers in contests around the world.
Throughout this steady and deliberate growth we never lost sight of the original standards of quality, design and innovation on which the company was founded.
Today we supply rings and equipment to Retail outlets, Health and Fitness Studio’s ABA registered boxing clubs and a large section of the British Armed Forces. We’re also proud to have supplied some of the most successful names in British boxing over the years, including Barry McGuigan, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins, Prince Naseem Hamed and Frank Bruno to name just a few.
Focused on high quality at a fair price we aim to live up to our name as ‘The Professionals Choice in Boxing’, from the Gloves on your hands to the Ring under your feet.

 RIVAL:

Ever since Babe Ruth hit his 714th home run the baseball equipment industry was driven to provide the consumer with better and better products each and every year. When Jacques Plante invented the first mask for goaltenders he began a revolution which would continue on to this day. In every sport we have seen an evolution and development of equipment which has increased performance and provided more protection than ever before. The 80’s and 90’s took sporting equipment to a new level as man-made materials appeared and out-performed their predecessors. Technology now played a major role in the development of equipment and nowhere was this more evident than in the running shoe industry. Those companies knew that technology, materials, style and design were now the major factors in the production of high-end sporting goods. It is with this concept in mind that Rival Boxing Gear was born from.
Russ Anber Co-founder of RIVAL,“The Coach” Russ Anber is a veteran boxing trainer who has four Olympians and one World Champion under his belt.
