After the ‘money’ kept his unbeaten record intact after
claiming a majority point’s decision over Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas on
Saturday night, the question is who is next for Floyd Mayweather? An obvious
choice would be Amir Khan after his impressive points win over Luis Collazo.
And since Mayweather chose to fight Maidana instead of Khan this time round you
would assume that Khan has now placed himself in prime position to be Floyd’s
next opponent. There has also been talk of a rematch with Maidana, which for
Mayweather would be a safer fight as he already has the formula to beat the
Argentine and would surely take a step closer to retiring with that perfect
record. However if Mayweather is to retire as one of the greatest boxers of all
time then he needs to retire with no question marks over him in terms of
avoiding fights, so the Khan fight has to happen. Then there are possible
fights with Manny Pacquiao, Timothy Bradley and Danny Garcia, with all of these
fights having the potential to trouble Mayweather. Ultimately Mayweather will
fight who he wants and there is no doubt that he is one of the most talented and
gifted fighters of all time. If he is to make it to retirement still unbeaten
and fought at least two of the fighters above then he will without doubt go
down as one of the greatest of all time or maybe even ‘the greatest’ although
that statement will cause arguments for generations.
