The Weekends Action…

Terence Crawford Vs Yuriorkis Gamboa

Terence Crawford retained the WBO lightweight title by stopping Yuriorkis Gamboa in the ninth round. Crawford had won the title off Ricky Burns in March and put in another impressive performance to retain the belt.  Gamboa started the fight well using his quick hand speed and edged the first few rounds in his favour. However Crawford showed his class by flooring his opponent four times on the way to winning. The decisive round was the ninth; with Crawford flooring Gamboa twice the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight.

Ricky Burns Vs Dejan Zlaticanin

Ricky Burns suffered a second straight defeat after losing on points to Dejan Zlaticanin in Glasgow. Burns was knocked down within the first 20 seconds of the fight but failed to recover enough to get the win. The Scot was most definitely affected for the first half of the fight with Zlaticanin picking him off. However Burns fought back and finished the fight strongly, but the late rally wasn’t enough and Burns lost on a split decision with scores of 115-113, 113-115, 115-113.
