Boxing Has Lost a Legend!

Emanuel Steward (1944-2012)

Legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward has passed away at a Chicago hospital at the age of 68. Steward founded the world famous Kronk gym in Detroit. His gym produced some of the world’s greatest fighters including Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko and former six-time world champion Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns. Steward handled 43 world champions during his times, which has led to his legendary status as one of the greatest corner men of all time. Steward was born in West Virginia and moved to Detroit when he was 12. He then made a name for himself in sixties as a hugely talented amateur fighter. He finished his amateur career with a record of 94 wins and three losses. He also got inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. Steward had been suffering from stomach cancer and died in hospital yesterday. His sister Diane Steward-Jones said: "He has passed - he has gone home. He was in no pain and we sang to him, as well as did the doctors present. He had loved ones with him. Our condolences go out to his friends and family. Boxing has lost a true legend who will never be forgotten.
