Mixed Fortune For Two British Heavyweights!

Saturday night saw the good and the bad for two former rivals David Price and Audley Harrison. It was a great night for Harrison who won the Prizefighter heavyweight competition for the second time but complete despair for heavyweight prospect David Price who lost his unbeaten record after being stopped in the second round by a stunning right hand.

Prizefighter – Harrison looked sharp from the start and in his first round match he stopped Claus Bertino in 33 seconds. The semi-final saw a hotly anticipated match with Martin Rogan but Harrison used his height and reach to great advantage by picking his opponent off at will from a safe distance and went on for a shutout win. In the final Harrison came up against American Derric Rossy who after two wars in the previous rounds was left exhausted and in the second round Harrison ended things with a big left hand. Harrison bagged himself £36,000 and the Prizefighter trophy.

Price Vs Thompson – Heavily backed David Price went into his one as hot favourite at a crammed Echo Arena in Liverpool. The first round saw both men settling in and finding their range with price the slightly busier of the two. However the second produced the excitement with Price going on the attack forcing Thompson into the corner and landing some powerful body blows. The duo then traded a few blows but then to the crowd’s disbelief Thompson caught Price with a short right to the side of the head that sent the Brit to the canvas. Price however did manage to get to his feet but with his wobbling jelly legs the referee had no real option but to stop the contest. The loss is a massive set back for Price but also a big learning curve. How he comes back from this will make or break him as a fighter.
