New Look Khan Schools Molina!
It was undoubtedly
a career defining fight on Saturday night for Amir Khan and the Bolton boxer
certainly rose to the occasion at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Under
new trainer Virgil Hunter Khan showed a fine display of skills and most
importantly patience, a virtue which Khan has abandoned of late. The first and
second round saw glimpses of the old Khan with him getting caught with a left hook
and right hand from Molina but apart from that Khan clinically took his
opponent apart. As the fight went on
Khan displayed ferocious hand speed and a defence breaking jab which left
Molina with a cut left and eye and a beat up looking face. With Khan’s
confidence thriving he was completely bossing the fight and at the end of the ninth
the referee almost called time on Molina’s fight asking for the doctor to
inspect the damage to Molina. Molina was allowed to carry on in false hope of
getting a lucky break against Khan and after another three minutes of
punishment Molina’s corner spared their fighter anymore pain and pulled him out
before the start of the 11th round. The result is just what Khan
needed but the way he won would have meant more. Even though there is still
work to be done Khan showed great boxing skills and a greatly improved defence.
He went in there with a cool, calm head and wanted to out box his opponent
rather than wanting to knock his head off. There is no doubt that having Virgil
Hunter as his new trainer was a right decision. As long as Khan keeps to his
new regime under Hunter 2013 has the potential to be big year for him.
